Shay O’Connor
Shay O’Connor is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, storyteller, and proud New Orleans native dedicated to telling stories that matter. Born and raised Uptown, she is a graduate of Eleanor McMain High School and Xavier University of Louisiana, where she earned her degree in Mass Communications. Her career took her to Jackson, Mississippi, where she worked as a morning anchor and reporter at WJTV 12 News, before returning home to New Orleans to serve her community as a reporter and anchor at WDSU-TV.
Throughout her career, Shay has been driven by a deep commitment to amplifying the voices of the overlooked, the forgotten, and the unheard. Her work is rooted in truth, connection, and community, with a passion for reporting stories that inform, inspire, and create impact.
Now entering a new chapter, Shay is expanding her voice beyond traditional news through podcasting, writing, and independent storytelling. Whether on screen, behind the mic, or in the community, she remains committed to honest conversations, meaningful journalism, and stories that deserve to be told.
My Mission
I’ve spent my career shining a light on the stories that matter most — the ones that might otherwise go untold. From covering breaking news and community issues to investigating injustice, I approach every story with empathy, integrity, and a deep love for the people of New Orleans. Whether it’s through broadcast journalism, my upcoming podcast, or community events, my goal remains the same: to amplify voices and create meaningful connections.
Storytelling
Every community has stories worth telling. I’m dedicated to finding them and sharing them with heart, honesty, and purpose.
Community First
From New Orleans to the world, I put community at the center of everything I do. Your support helps me continue this work independently.
